A baby’s first home is now a pile of rubble. This morning in Al-Fakhit, Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, Israeli occupation forces demolished the house that was supposed to hold a child’s earliest memories. A family with an infant is now without shelter. Their belongings — clothes, food, the small things that make a house a home — lie crushed under concrete and tin. This is not an isolated “enforcement action.” Masafer Yatta communities have lived under the threat of demolition for years because the area was declared Firing Zone 918. Permits for Palestinians to build legally in Area C are almost never granted. The result is the same pattern: homes destroyed, families left in the open, children growing up knowing that the roof over their heads can disappear without warning. A baby should not have to start life this way. No family should watch the place they built get flattened while they stand by, unable to stop it. The people of Masafer Yatta have said they will not leave their land. They should not have to choose between staying and having a roof. End the demolitions. Let these families live in their homes.
